Buttery Oatmeal Bread Sticks
Makes 24 bread sticks
In large mixing bowl, stir together:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 package yeast
Set aside.
In sauce pan mix together:
1 1/4 cups water
2 Tbsp shortening
1 Tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Heat until just warm (115F), stirring to melt shortening.
Add to flour mixture. Beat at low speed on mixer for 1/2 minute. Beat 3 minutes on high.
By hand stir in:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup quick cooking rolled oats.
Cover and let rise until double. Punch down, let rest 10 minutes. Shape into 24 sticks, 1/2 inch thick. Place on greased cookie sheet. Let rise until double. Bake in 375F oven for 20 minutes. While warm brush with butter and sprinkle with coarse salt.
